From mentee to mentor

A CEO who had support from Sheffield Hallam University two years ago has now joined its panel of industry experts to help others achieve their dream

Joe Gaunt, CEO of hero, has gone full circle with his tech-driven health and wellbeing company and is set to join the network of experts at Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) to support other budding entrepreneurs.

Joe was one of the first applicants to successfully secure a coveted place on the centre’s R&D-focused Acceleration Programme in its inaugural year. As a result he was given access to a specialist research team which supported hero with an evaluation of its product, which independently validated the health impact of hero, its strategies, its tech (Navigator), services with clients and users – all of which positively impact the four pillars of whole person health – mental physical, social and financial heath.

During the programme Joe secured a partnership with UKactive and secured investments of more than £800,000, which has helped hero further scale its operation across the UK.

Joe said: “There’s no doubt that being a part of this amazing programme has helped hero get to where it is today and I’m delighted to now be a part of the process and help others. The network of experts and facilities offered by the centre were an excellent sounding board for perfecting our product and I’m over the moon to be able to share my experiences and knowledge with up-and-coming businesses.

Since the programme, hero has continued to make waves in the health and wellbeing industry and with its latest trailblazing partnership with OliveX, it will soon enter the Metaverse with an online social hub and a range of NFTs.

Ryan Sylvester, project manager in the AWRC R&D for Business Team and accelerator programme manager, added: “It’s fantastic to see hero going from strength to strength and having Joe on board will be incredibly beneficial for future participants. As well as having Joe as part of our mentor network, we’re currently exploring other opportunities to help hero continue its growth. Both organisations are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the UK through greater levels of physical activity”.
